Don't bother going here.

Went on sunday and arrived at about 12:15. decided to have the sunday lunch which was advertised as roast beef or another roast meat, we were told that only beef was available and when it arrived it looked and tasted like very cheap meat, the mashed potatoes served with it were cold. the pudding was ok but the custrd served with this was also cold. will not be going again

Sunday lunch simply dreadful

Under new management so hope it will improve. It is awful at the moment so I should give it a month. Soggy veg, tasteless food or salty and slow in coming. Used to be so good.

An experience to forget

My youngest nephew then found his glass had a serious and visible crack in it. The starters finally arrived a good 30 minutes after they had been ordered, again no apology and even then one of the starters was incorrect. They did offer, grudgingly, to exchange it.On to the main course. Five of the six meals arrived and, five minutes later mine arrived. I'd ordered from the specials board. it was said to include Mustard MASH. It arrived with hot food piled on a horrible heap of cold potato salad.

Awful night's sleep at the Cottons Hotel.

The noise in bedroom 300 from the heating or plumbing sounded like a jet taking of at times. woke me in the night several times.

Gorgeous country pub

Just what you needed on a miserable Misty cold day. Roaring fire and cosy oldie worldy decor. Lots of parking. Very pleasant staff. The fish butty ( on a brioche bun) & mushy peas also with skinny fries. The beer battered haddock was beautiful. The goosnargh chicken BLT on brioche was also spot on and will definitely return. Highly recommended

What the heck was going on?

The food, whilst I can’t say has been bad in recent times, it is not what it used to be and it has gone down-hill. The customer service however, has noticeably declined. Gone are the friendly and helpful staff who could guarantee a decent service, rather it appears to be more of a bunch of kids in charge here, arguable more interested in socialising than taking down the details of orders correctly, nor ensuring all meals arrive somewhat together – if at all.

Dirty room, management needs to pay attention.

It wasn't just slightly dirty: I could run a finger through dust in various parts of the room, there was a leaky pipe underneath the floorboards in the bathroom that was seeping brown liquid and the bathroom smelt damp. The corridors and stairs were dirty, with frayed carpet and stains everywhere.

Poor afternoon tea!

Visited in Aug for a school friends reunion. Had to pay £29.99 for this in advance. Which I found odd. When we arrived in restaurant we were pretty much ignored. Asked for a jug of water which we were eventually given after about 20 mins. Afternoon tea was poor at best. Small portions and no staff available to complain to. Will not return.

Not good enough ?

We had been to a canal gala and drove here for a late Sunday lunch. We were met by a lady who said we could sit at any table that hadn`t got a reserved notice (we are not stupid) and she would follow us through with menus. We found a nice table for two and waited and waited for the lady to appear. We were completely ignored and yet people arriving after us were shown the specials board and given menus. We eventually left without either food or drink.

How this hotel is rated 4 stars by the AA is beyond me

The room was not soundproofed, constant flow of noisy traffic throughout the night Noise from above room became increasingly intolerable. The bath didn't drain properly because the plughole was full of hairs. The toilet was filthy. We tried to make a formal complaint at reception but was told there were no complaint forms, etc..

Limited spa, limited wifi, overall poor.

Overall the reservation process is poor as they seemed to be expecting one guest despite the reservation clearing stating two guests. Even after check in the staff did not bother updating the room with towels etc for two guests. In summary there is no attention to customer service and the hotel certainly does not make sure a spa is available for residents (even the pool and whirl pool are limited access for children under 14 so kids have limited activties)

Another good customer Lost

We have been regular customers at this pub over the years & always had good service and meals . . . until yesterday (Tuesday) lunchtime. You expect three things when you enter a restaurant: to be given a table, a menu & offered drinks. So we were given a table in full sight of the lady in charge and were then ignored for ten minutes, at which point we got up and left. As we left, the lady offered the excuse that there was a problem with the gas in the kitchen.
