Disappointing once again

Alarm bells should have rung large sign outside advertising for chefs, service could not fault, starters pork pie and a garlic bread hot ok. Main courses not so good chips more like roast potatoes, cheese and onion pie Luke warm in middle very uninviting. ploughmans appeared to have been around a while ham dried up. Ham and eggs nothing special very salty.

Excellent experience

Good, fresh food well cooked, great value for money. Attentive service but not fussy and very well kept beer! As I found out later that they are award winners. The log fire was lovely and cosy and certainly contributed to the warm friendly pub. We will definitely be back, and not just for our 10% discount.

Not good enough ?

We had been to a canal gala and drove here for a late Sunday lunch. We were met by a lady who said we could sit at any table that hadn`t got a reserved notice (we are not stupid) and she would follow us through with menus. We found a nice table for two and waited and waited for the lady to appear. We were completely ignored and yet people arriving after us were shown the specials board and given menus. We eventually left without either food or drink.

Well below par.

Disappointing. My favourite place to go in Blackburn and today was not very nicè the chicken Kiev was dry and the garlic tasted bitter there was th salt already on the chips then the gammon was placed on the chips witch is char grilled so the gammon went really salty and the chips went black . Plus was quite cold. by the time I got table checked it was too late and seemed pointless complaining .

Great stay with great service

Turned up with a party of 16, had to add a plus one and was well accommodated, really good food and service, mine didn't arrive as expected but the team put it right straight away, always difficult with a large party of people, but the food came almost simultaneously for everyone which was unexpected, food was excellent from that point, the place has a lovely historic feel to it as several of our party had been here before over the last couple of decades, would definitely return myself.

It's the last time I will visit this place.

It’s the very first time I wanted to leave a review to a restaurant. I thought I must share my experience with people who’re thinking about visiting this restaurant. Totally unhappy experience in terms of food and service we received. Long waiting time for the food (an hour) and none of us enjoyed the food nor their service.

Rude Manager typical of Thwaites group.

Stayed with a group of friends for a birthday celebration & long walks with the dogs. Beautiful setting, comfortable but small rooms. Food average, service very poor. Assistant Manager made us feel that everything was too much trouble, that we were an inconvenience instead of paying guests. Requested feedback from us then emailed an appalling & very offensive reply.

A disappointing night away from home.

When I arrived the reception staff were abrupt and unwelcoming. The room was adequate although the pillows were awful. For a room costing over £200 I would say it was barely worth a quarter of that. I will not be returning. Oh and the advertised bath products were tiny. Don’t try to order a la carte at breakfast as you can’t. What you can do is order the fixed options without various of the things!!!!

Great village pub.

I’d heard very good things about the new management.The service was friendly, the food was absolutely brilliant. Good wholesome pub food. I had the steak pie which was lovely, with a lovely rich gravy. All plates cleared. We will definitely return, I think if this is the standard, the other pubs in the area should be worried. Thanks again. We will definitely return.
